WEST COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Local leaders showed support to the United Negro College Fund Monday at its Second Annual Revival of the Mind Luncheon.

The event helped raise funds and awareness of the importance of historically black colleges and universities.

Every year U.N.C.F. raises money for thousands of low and moderate income students.

"There's Allen University, there's Benedict, there's Voorhees, there's Morris, just to name a few that are right here within the South Carolina community, so you see over the years there have been hundreds of thousands of young people that have benefitted dejectedly from U.N.C.F. scholarships and internships," W. Imara Canay, the area development director with U.N.C.F.

The U.N.C.F. supports about eight thousands students in South Carolina, and all the money raised here stays here.

WACH FOX News at Ten anchor Darryl Hood hosted this year's event.
