LEXINGTON COUNTY (WACH) - Lexington County deputies are working to identify and locate a 'suspicious person' they say asked a teenage girl to get into a car Wednesday afternoon.
Deputies say the man's car was parked on Edmund Highway around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday near an area that is used as a bus stop for public school buses in Lexington.
Sheriff James R. Metts says a 14-year-old girl told school resource officers with his department and the Cayce Department of Public Safety that the man was heavy set, white and older with a mullet haircut and a long, gray beard. The girl says the man was wearing eyeglasses and a white collared shirt and spoke in a deep voice. She also said he was driving a red, older model, four-door vehicle that had a broken headlight on the front passenger side. A thin piece of black tape was placed across the middle of the cars rear windshield.
Metts says the girl told deputies the man rolled down his window and asked if she needed a ride. When the girl realized she did not know the man, she said she didn't need a ride. The girl says the man then exited his vehicle and she ran toward her home where she told her mother about the incident.
The girl told deputies she heard the man close his door and started driving toward her while she was running away, according to Metts.
