GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Greenville County Sheriff Steve Loftis says one of his deputies has been arrested after giving information about investigations to a woman wanted by police.

Loftis says Timothy Jackson was charged Wednesday with misconduct in office and obstructing justice.

The sheriff says Jackson was supposed to serve felony warrants on the woman last year, but instead got involved in a relationship with her and didn't turn her in. Loftis says the deputy also gave the woman reports detailing evidence in her case.

The sheriff says Jackson was fired in December after an internal investigation. He says Jackson worked with him for more than three years and won an award shortly before he was fired.

It wasn't known if Jackson had an attorney.
