CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Some Upstate middle school students are getting a chance to learn about the integration of Clemson University.

R.C. Edwards Middle School in Clemson is holding special screenings of "The Education of Harvey Gantt" on Monday for eighth-graders.

Documentary producer Betsy Newman and Clemson history professor Vernon Burton will talk to students about the 50th anniversary of the university's integration. Students will also learn about the important role their school's namesake, the late R.C. Edwards, played during that process as Clemson's president.

Gantt was granted admission to Clemson in 1963 after suing the school. He graduated with honors in 1965 and went on to become the first black mayor of Charlotte, N.C.
