COLUMBIA (WACH) - The Koger Center was alive with the sound of some of the state's best musicians on Sunday.

The All-State Orchestra Festival gave people a chance to come out to a free concert. The annual event is held by the South Carolina Music Educators Association; and showcases the best orchestra students from grades 6-12.

The Midlands were well represented. Schools from Richland One, Two, Five, Lexington One and Two participated.

SCMEA President Colleen Marcou said the children were motivated by working with composers.

"They can focus, they have an opportunity to be creative," Marcou said. "We have Richard Meyer who is conduction our 6-8 grade group. He is a composer. We have a lot of kids in both middle and high school groups who see that as a possibility of what they would like to do in the future."

There were also students from Orangeburg and Sumter that played in Sunday's performance.
