COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- University of South Carolina law school and accounting students are offering their time to provide free tax assistance to the low income and elderly.
The school program is called Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and is in its 22nd year.
University spokeswoman Peggy Binette says students prepare and file simple South Carolina and federal tax returns in the law school lobby from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. They also work on returns from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
The service is on a first-come, first-served basis. No business, self-employment or complex forms are eligible.
The School of Law lobby is located at 701 S. Main Street and is entered from Green Street.
