COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The House's budget-writing committee is putting together its spending plan for coming fiscal year.

The Ways and Means Committee began meeting Tuesday to craft an overall plan from separate sections handled by subcommittees. Floor debate is set for next month.

Gov. Nikki Haley proposed a $6.3 billion spending plan from state taxes in her executive budget released in December.

Projections for money coming into state coffers have since increased, giving the House more money to work with for the fiscal year that starts July 1.

The state's Board of Economic Advisors said Friday the state will collect nearly $120 million more this fiscal year than initially expected.

Haley wants $26 million of that additional money for income tax cuts, and the rest for road and bridge repair.
