COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The mother of a woman shot outside a South Carolina courthouse says her daughter was ambushed after a child support hearing.

Jennifer Smith said the father of her daughter's child wasn't at Wednesday's hearing where he was ordered to start paying child support. Instead, he waited outside and fired on 21-year-old Olivia Weaver and her stepfather in a parking area of the Chesterfield County courthouse.

Fifty-seven-year-old Curtis Gorny faces attempted murder and other charges in the shooting.

After the shooting, authorities say Gorny led deputies on a 12-mile chase, firing at officers before his tires were shredded and his truck ran into a ditch.

A bond hearing for Gorny is scheduled for Thursday.

Weaver was hit in the face and stomach. Her mother says she is in intensive care at a Florence hospital, but is expected to survive.
