MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- The ban on burnouts will remain in effect during biker rallies this spring in Horry County.

Burnouts are a maneuver in which stationary motorcycles rev their engines and spin their wheels. The burnouts send clouds of smoke into the air.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that Horry County's public safety director told a committee reviewing rally rules Monday that people living near bars where the burnouts occur have complained about the noise and the smoke from burned rubber.

One biker got a temporary injunction against the county rules last year, but the lawsuit resulting from the complaint has been resolved.
