GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina Attorney General's Office says it can't release additional details about a former sheriff who pleaded guilty to wrongdoing.
The Index-Journal of Greenwood reports the attorney general's office denied the newspaper's request for more details about Abbeville County Sheriff Charles Goodwin.
Goodwin resigned last month, several days before he was indicted and pleaded guilty to misconduct in office. He was sentenced to five years of probation, 100 hours of community service and ordered to pay restitution of nearly $4,500.
The attorney general's office refused to release details because the case went to the State Grand Jury. Prosecutors say releasing the information would violate a law keeping grand jury matters secret. A similar reason was given for refusing to release details of former Saluda County Jason Booth's misconduct.
