COLUMBIA (WACH/AP) -- The K9 unit at the Richland County Sheriff's Department is getting a boost.

Sheriff Leon Lott says Zach's Sandwich Shop and Schroeder's Towing are hosting a Lowcountry boil on Thursday to benefit the department.

Lott says the business owners contacted his deputies looking for a way to give back to the department and show support for its K9 unit.

The event will be held at Zach's Sandwich Shop (3512 Bush River Road) from 11 to 2:30 PM Thursday.

Similar events have been successful in the past. Organizers say the last time this event was held, they served 125 plates in less than two hours.
