CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- An editor in Iowa who helped his newspaper get national recognition for print and online journalism has been chosen as the new editor of The Post and Courier of Charleston.
Post and Courier Publisher P.J. Browning said that Mitch Pugh led a team at the Sioux City Journal that used a digital-first approach to covering breaking news, weather and other core topics.
The Journal won a National Newspaper Association award in 2012 for the best newspaper website.
Pugh said he intends to build on the Post and Courier's tradition of watchdog reporting and journalism that focuses on the community.
Pugh replaces Bill Hawkins, who retired in September after serving as both editor and publisher of the Charleston paper.
