UNION, S.C. (AP) -- Police in Union have arrested three burglary suspects after the men tried to convert $700 in stolen change into cash at a grocery store.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported that sheriff's deputies say someone broke into a home Tuesday and took a gold watch, a silver watch, a 47-inch television and $700 in change.

Union police were called to a grocery store where an employee reported a change machine had been damaged when three men tried to put a large quantity of change into the device and jammed it with some leaves mixed with the coins.

Grocery store employees told the men to return later to pick up the cash. The three suspects were arrested when they returned.

Officers found some of the stolen items in the car.
