Columbia (WACH) -- Weight management is a constant struggle for lots of people.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention 30 percent of adults in South Carolina are obese and the problem is being passed on to children.

"It has to start at home and it's not just telling kids what they should eat it's showing them what to eat and having the whole family have a healthy lifestyle," said USC Professor Dr. Teresa Moore.

Food labels are one way to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Moore explained that labels can be misleading and hard to understand.

"If you don't take the time to really dissect the label you're not really going to know how much is in the product and what you are really eating," said Dr. Moore.

Moore admits living a healthy lifestyle is more than eating a balanced diet, it's a mindset.
