SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Officials at Spartanburg Methodist College say a baseball player at the school accused of assault has withdrawn from classes.

Nineteen-year-old Taylor Randall Childers of Royston, Ga., was arrested last weekend and charged with trying to rape a woman at an apartment. Childers is being held in the Spartanburg County jail on charges of first-degree burglary and second-degree assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.

College president Colleen Keith says Childers' family withdrew him from the school Monday, taking his possessions out of a residence hall.

Authorities say Childers and some other men were drinking at the female victim's apartment with her and her roommates. After the men left, Childers is accused of returning early Friday and assaulting a woman as she slept on the couch.
