GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities are blaming hundreds of wrecks in South Carolina's Upstate on icy weather.

The Highway Patrol says troopers responded to about 500 collisions across Anderson, Greenville, Pickens and Spartanburg counties on Friday.

Authorities said the wintry weather was enough to turn many roads in the state's northwest into sheets of ice but wasn't heavy enough to down power lines and trees.

Coroner Kandy Kelley said icy conditions led to one traffic death in Pickens County. Officials in Spartanburg County said another driver, 62-year-old Lorraine Norman, died in a collision there, but authorities haven't said if that wreck was weather-related.

A winter weather advisory for the area was extended until noon Saturday, but forecasters say they expect sunshine and warmed temperatures throughout the day.
