BLYTHEWOOD (WACH) -- The newest high school in Richland School District Two was formally dedicated Friday.

Westwood High first opened for classes last August, but it celebrated its dedication Friday with a ceremony of music, dancing, a video about the Westwood Way, and speeches by community and school leaders.

"Westwood joins Richland District Two as the fifth high school to serve children in our community since 1926," said principal Ralph Schmidt. "We are excited to be part of the Blythewood community and start a long history of preparing students to be future leaders in our community, state, nation and even the world."

The ceremony ended with a ribbon cutting.

Westwood High currently has about 1,200 students in attendance, according to Schmidt.

Its mascot is the Redhawk.
