BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- A lawsuit alleging mistreatment of a disabled student in the Beaufort County School District has been settled with the student and his mother receiving about $37,000.

The Beaufort Gazette reports the parties agreed that the October settlement was not to be considered an admission of guilt.

The lawsuit claimed the student, whose name was not released, was secluded and restrained by district employees and bullied on a school bus from May through December of 2010. The original lawsuit also alleged the student was sexually molested but those allegations were later dropped.

The district's insurer, the South Carolina School Boards Insurance Trust, settled with the child and his mother. In addition to the $37,000, more than $13,000 will be paid in 2019 to an annuity for the child.
