Sumter deputies confiscate more than $250,000 of pot

SUMTER, SC (WACH)- Sumter County investigator's say the Sheriff's Department made a huge bust involving massive amounts of drugs, guns, copper. More arrests are pending.

On the week of January 7th ,Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit deputies concluded an undercover drug operation within Sumter County. The drugs to included Crack, Cocaine, Marijuana, and prescription Controlled substances were purchased throughout the County.  The below person(s) were arrested, charged, transported to the Sumter Lee Detention Center. More arrests are pending and the Sheriff’s Office will continue to target the dealers in Sumter County. 

James Michael Johnson from Florida was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana when he was stopped for speeding on Interstate 95. 

Johnson was charged with speeding, driving under suspension and Possession With Intent to Distribute Marijuana after approximately eight pounds of Marijuana valued at $16000.00 was found in his vehicle.  Johnson's vehicle was searched after it was impounded after he was arrested for the traffic offenses. Another stop on I-95 of Stephen Johnson yielded a seizure of approximately 120 pounds of marijuana valued at $240,000.00. Another person, Shakil Miller of Columbia was charged with Counterfeit Goods after a separate traffic stop in Sumter. 

Miller was charged with Driving Under Suspension and during an inventory of his vehicle after his arrest, a case of counterfeit Nike Shoes was found. 
Both were taken to the Detention center and have had the bond hearings.

Two of these suspects, Wayne Taylor and Gregory Brunson were already incarcerated with the South Carolina Department of Corrections and arrest warrants were sent to that agency to be served.

Also during this time frame the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Division were working several cases of stolen copper from various homes and businesses around the county and as a result of this investigation 9 suspects were arrested and charged. All suspects were arrested and transported to the Sumter/Lee Regional Detention Center where they all had bond hearings. We still have outstanding warrants on several individuals and we are currently looking for them at this time.
