GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A man involved in deadly wreck has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for shooting at Greenville County law officers.
Solicitor Walt Wilkins says 27-year-old Patrick Dean Lowrance was sentenced Monday after a jury convicted him of charges including attempted murder and weapons possession.
Lowrance was arrested in October 2011 after a manhunt and chase with deputies. Authorities say he fired at two police officers checking on a suspicious license plate.
Neither of the officers was hurt, but Lowrance was hit in the shoulder. Authorities say he was a passenger in a car that deputies pursued until it crashed into some trees. Thirty-four-year-old Derrek Smith died at the scene.
Lowrance was found hours later after police tracked him to a Greenville home.
