Gaston, SC (WACH)--A man is dead after being hit by a car Friday evening.

The South Carolina Highway patrol said the accident occurred on the 3700 block of Highway 321. A spokesperson for the department said Julius Presley, 56, was walking northbound illegally on the middle of the road, when he was hit by a 2003 Chevy Cavalier. The Lexington Coroner's Office said Presley died at the scene from severe head and body trauma.

The driver of the car, Richard Barrs, 50, was not hurt and was not charged.

The accident is under investigation by the Lexington Coroner's Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
