COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A former South Carolina State University trustee has been released on bond after being charged in a federal kickback scheme.

A federal judge on Thursday set bond at $25,000 for Jonathan N. Pinson. Another man charged in the case, Greenville businessman Eric Robinson, was released on $15,000 bond.

Pinson was a member of the Orangeburg school's board of trustees until last month. Prosecutors say in an indictment unsealed Thursday that he worked with Robinson to use his position to solicit money and favors.

Earlier Thursday, S.C. State's former campus police chief pleaded guilty to conspiring with Pinson to arrange for the university to buy land. In exchange for that deal, authorities say Pinson negotiated a Porsche SUV for himself and arranged for the police chief to get $30,000 and an ATV.
