COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Columbia City Council met Tuesday evening to vote on the employment contract for Teresa Wilson to take over as City Manger.

The majority voted in favor for Wilson's contract between her and the City.

The Columbia Native is a graduate of the University of South Carolina's School of Law.

Wilson was previously the City of Columbia's Assistant City Manager for Community Programs, Economic Development and Government Services.

Part of her contract which was voted on included her salary which is more than what City Manager Steve Gantt made.

Mayor Steve Benjamin says that they realized the salary for City Manager was too low in comparison to other City's in the South East, the same size as Columbia or smaller.

"I think that at the end of the day everyone will be pleased. I'm confident about moving into the position and making sure that our City moves forward, working with our staff to ensure that they have the things that they need to ensure the financial stability of our city," said Wilson.

Wilson beat out almost 30 other candidates for the position.
