COLUMBIA (WACH)- A suspected shoplifter ended up in the hospital after trying to steal beer from a store on Parklane Road in Richland County.

Deputy Curtis Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff's Department says deputies were called to the Shell gas station at 7441 Parklane Road around 1:00 A.M. Tuesday. A store employee saw a man trying to steal beer. The man ran into the parking lot and got into a car driven by another man.

The store employee ran into the parking lot and fired shots at the car.

The employee ran into the parking lot and began shooting at the car. One of the suspects was hit numerous times and suffered non-life threatening injuries.  Wilson identified the suspect as Andrew Walker, possibly in his early 30's

The other suspect Clyde Manigo.  Manigo surrendered shortly after deputies arrived on scene.

Wilson says the Sheriff's Department is working with the 5th Circuit Solicitor's office to determine if and what charges will be filed.
