PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- The Marine Corps is hosting its first-ever oath of citizenship ceremony at its historic recruit depot at Parris Island.

Spokeswoman 2nd Lt. Jean Durham says Thursday's ceremony includes 11 recruits and one Marine sergeant from nearby Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

The oath of allegiance is being administered by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services District Director Denise Frazier.

Durham says the ceremony marks the culmination of a lengthy process the dozen have undertaken to become citizens.

Durham says the 11 recruits are slated to graduate from their training on Friday.
