CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a con man wanted on fraud charges in Indiana has been hiding out in the Charleston area.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (http://bit.ly/ZTLBrU) Wednesday that 63-year-old Douglas Martin was charged with four counts of fraud in Indiana for allegedly writing back checks.

Martin was released on bail on January 2011 but fled to Folly Beach before he could be prosecuted. Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Jim Brady says Martin was arrested Nov. 7, but that warrant was dropped after Martin had medical issues and was found to be unfit to travel to Indiana.

But now, Indiana officials say Martin may have been feigning illness, and they've reinstituted the warrant.

Martin didn't return calls from the newspaper. Records show he was convicted of bank fraud in 2010.
