SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a 20-month-old Summerville boy has died, five days after wandering into a neighborhood pond.

Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury says Brandon Homes Jr. died Sunday at Medical University Hospital as a result of submersion.

The coroner's office and Summerville police have ruled his death an accident.

When police arrived at his apartment complex Tuesday, someone was performing CPR on the toddler, and the boy's father was kneeling at his feet.

The father told police the boy was playing downstairs in their home when he briefly went upstairs, and when he came back down his son was missing. The father drove to the front office to alert employees, and someone found him floating in a nearby pond.

The father's name was not released.
