Columbia (WACH)--A non-profit organization is giving back to those in need.

Organizers with Helping Young People Evolve (H.Y.P.E) hosted their second ever Big Giveaway. The group collected boxes full of coats, shoes, pants, hoodies, and other warm clothing that will be donated to less privileged residents.

Last year, H.Y.P.E raised close to 700 coats, shoes and scarf's. Those went to needy folks at Transition homeless shelter. This year, they are aiming for almost 1,000 items.

Founder Wes Bellamy said it is important to think of others.

"The holiday season is that in itself," Bellamy said. "It is not about what you can receive. It is about what you can give back..And I think it is very important for young African-Americans here in the greater Columbia area to show that we do care about the people; and the constituents that live here. So this is just our effort to give back."

All of the items will be given away at the Christ Central Hope Plaza on Main Street Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The giveaway is open to anyone in need.
