COLUMBIA (AP) -- Gov. Nikki Haley is asking South Carolina residents to observe a moment of silence Friday morning to honor the memory of the victims of last week's school shooting in Connecticut.

Haley says she is honoring a request from Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy. The moment of silence will start at 9:30 a.m., almost one week to the moment the shooting started at the elementary school. Six adults and 20 children were killed.

Along with the moment of silence, Haley asked South Carolinians to pray for the families of the victims, hug their children a little tighter and thank teachers for their selfless service.
