COLUMBIA (WACH / AP) -- Two people are dead after a three car accident just after midnight Friday in downtown Columbia.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol the accident took place at the intersection of Blossom Street and Huger Street around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Authorities say someone driving a 2011 Hyundai was trying to get away from Cayce police when that driver went through a red light crashing into a 2003 Ford Minivan. Both drivers were killed.

Investigators say the Hyundai also hit a taxi, but the taxi driver was not hurt. The minivan hit a building and caught fire.

Three passengers in the Hyundai also were taken to a hospital.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol  is investigating the crash.
