MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say an 8-year-old girl was run over after falling from a float in the Murrells Inlet Christmas parade.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the girl from a fell off a float being pulled by a pickup truck just before 4 p.m. Sunday. Lance Cpl. Judd Jones says the float ran over the girl's legs and stomach.

Jones says the girl was flown to a hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition. Her name has not been released.

The Georgetown County Sheriff's Department is investigating. Jones says the fall was an accident, and the driver will not be charged.
