COLUMBIA (WACH) - A car was struck by a Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority bus in downtown Columbia Friday afternoon.

Police say the crash occurred at the intersection of Sumter and Gervais Streets around 3:15 p.m.

A Chevy Cobalt was traveling west on Gervais Street when the driver ran a red light. A CMRTA bus crossing through Sumter and Gervais hit the Chevy as it passed into the intersection, according to a spokesperson with the Columbia Police Department.

The car flipped and hit another vehicle as a result of the collision.

Authorities say six individuals were transported to a hospital and were responsive leaving the scene. The driver of the Chevy Cobalt is expected to be charged with running a red light.
