COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A 24-year-old Johnsonville man has been ordered to spend four years in prison for a racially motivated attack against a black teenager.

Prosecutors said Chase McClary was sentenced under the federal hate crimes law Tuesday in Washington, D.C., after pleading guilty to the attack earlier this year. He agreed to the four-year sentence.

Authorities say McClary attacked the 16-year-old boy with the jagged end of a broken coffee mug in August 2010, causing severe head, face and neck injuries. McClary admitted he attacked the teen because of his race.

McClary was also sentenced to three years of probation.
