COLUMBIA (WACH)--Sunday was a day of giving for many around the Midlands.

The annual Midlands 5K Crop Walk was held Sunday afternoon at the state house. Hundreds of participants from about 21 churches walked around the USC campus to Bull Street, and back to the state house.

75% of the proceeds will go to the Church World Service International Hunger Relief Efforts. The other 25% will go to Harvest Hope Food Bank.

Food bank CEO Denise Howard said participants got an idea of how hard life is for many that are less fortunate.

"The mileage that they walk here is significant to the same amount of miles that in an impoverished country, people would walk just to find water," Howard said. "There are people who every day fight hunger and do not know where there next meal is coming from. So it is critical."
