COLUMBIA (WACH) - Columbia is more beautiful this week thanks to Lexington County businesses that worked together to remove more than 30 bags of trash from a local stretch of road.

Officials say employees from eight businesses in the Westpark office park dedicated 26 total hours of effort to clean a stretch of Fernandina Road in Columbia.

The opportunity was a part of the Adopt-A-Highway program and was facilitated by Keep the Midlands Beautiful and the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

According to the Keep the Midlands Beautiful website, there are almost 300 groups regularly volunteering to improve the community.
