MARINE CORPS AIR STATION BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- Some 225 Marines are home at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort after serving an eight-month tour of duty aboard the USS Enterprise.

Marine Corps spokesman Sgt. Marcy Sanchez says members of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251 returned safely Wednesday.

The unit served on the Enterprise on its mission in the Mediterranean, the Mideast and Persian Gulf region. Known as the Thunderbolts, the squadron also flew in support of troops in Afghanistan.

The aircraft carrier returned to its Norfolk, Va., home port and is scheduled to be deactivated in December after more than 50 years of service.

The Marine Corps says the Thunderbolts flew 432 combat missions during the operation.
