COLUMBIA (WACH) - Children at a Midlands hospital are getting in on the Halloween spirit.

Palmetto Health Children's Hospital hosted its 4th annual Halloween Carnival Wednesday.

Hundreds of hospitalized children and family members participated in the trick-or-treating.

There were more than thirty booths set up by staff members.

The event helps inpatient children and other children receiving medical care at the hospital have a sense of normalcy.

Diane Bagnal-Moody, spokesperson for Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, says says the event is an opportunity for the kids.

"They're not able to be at home. They're not able to go trick-or-treating. But now, they can have that experience. It's a normalization experience for them. It's an opportunity for them to enjoy Halloween just like they would if they were at home. The staff loves it, and they all want to be a part of this celebration," said Moody.

The children also got to play carnival games, get their faces painted and participated in crafts.
