Columbia (WACH)--University students are stepping in to create a Safety Pathway to 5 Points.

The Student Senate Committee is proposing 6 additional emergency call boxes for areas that lead from campus to 5 Points.

"They have been a great help as far as solving crimes," said Ryan Bailey, Transportation and Safety Chair.

Currently there are 215 call boxes on campus.

The idea is to add more along College, Greene and Blossom Streets.

"A big part of the call boxes would be having the cameras on the top of them so that any crimes that do happen can be immediately be reported to the police," said Bailey.

The students are currently working to raise money for the new call boxes.

If the proposal is approved the new boxes could be up by the first of the year.
