COLUMBIA (WACH) - Authorities say a traffic stop in Columbia lead to the seizure of 11 marijuana plants Tuesday.

Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott says Glenn W. Dickson, III was driving in the 1000 block of Airport Boulevard when an officer allegedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from Dickson's vehicle.

According to Scott, the officer initiated a traffic stop. When Dickson stepped out of the vehicle, the officer noticed a "green 'leafy' substance in plain view inside of a white envelope."

Police say a thorough search of the vehicle uncovered 11 marijuana plants stored in trash bags with an estimated street value of $33,000.

Dickson is charged with manufacturing marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
