GREER, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a failed relationship led a man to shoot and kill another man before taking several people hostage inside a Greer home and wounding two deputies.

Greenville County sheriff's deputies say 30-year-old Shane Kelly Young entered a house around 9:30 p.m. Sunday and shot and killed 48-year-old Kenneth Horton. Deputies say Young then took four adults and one child hostage.

Sheriff's deputies stormed the house several hours later. Deputies say Young shot and wounded two officers whose injuries weren't thought to be life-threatening.

The officers returned fire, and Young was wounded. Several others were hurt. Deputies say Horton was dating Young's ex-girlfriend but haven't released more details.

Jail records show Young has been charged with first-degree burglary. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
