COLUMBIA (WACH) -- People were thinking pink Friday at the annual Mayor's Campaign Against Breast Cancer Breakfast in downtown Columbia.

October is breast cancer awareness month.

All proceeds from the breakfast benefit Bosom Buddies, an organization that assists women who are in need of mastectomy camisoles or have other post-surgical needs.

"Breast cancer is the number one diagnosed form of cancer for women in South Carolina -- second nationally only to lung cancer -- so it touches each and every one of us," said Mayor Steve Benjamin.

The goal for this breakfast was to exceed last year's funding and bring in $5,000 toward the fight against breast cancer.

The breakfast was staffed with celebrity servers to help support the cause, including Good Day Columbia anchor Janet Parker.

Mayor Benjamin says he hopes the breakfast shows both men and women suffering from breast cancer that they are not alone.

"Let them know they're not in this by themselves - that we're gonna fight it as a community," said Mayor Benjamin.
