COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Citizens packed room 308 in the Gressette Building Monday night to voice their concerns for the children South Carolina.

Educators, parents, child agency representatives, and medical professionals all came together.

"We need to know what the issues are so we can address them through legislation and policy," said Republican State Representative Joan Brady.

Brady is one of  three house members who serves on The Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children.

There are also three Senate members, directors of five child-serving agencies, and three gubernatorial appointees on the committee.

During the public hearing 18 adults brought up a wide variety of issues children in the state face everyday.

It's the second in a series of public hearings the committee has held this year.

Everything from childhood obesity, to poverty.

"Approximatley half of South Carolina children experienced or witnessed some sort of violence in the past year ," said one medical professional who took the floor.
