Air India has taken delivery of the first 787 assembled at Boeing's new South Carolina assembly plant.
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Air India has taken delivery of the first 787 assembled at Boeing's new South Carolina assembly plant.
The airline took delivery at the North Charleston plant Friday. Boeing officials said the plane is expected to fly out of the Charleston International Airport on Monday.
Boeing South Carolina vice president and general manager Jack Jones says it's a tribute to company workers, customers, suppliers and the state that the first plane was delivered within three years of breaking ground on the plant. The $750 million assembly plant opened last year.
The plane is the 28th 787 that Boeing has delivered to customers.
The company said Friday it plans to be producing three 787s a month at the South Carolina plant by the end of next year.
