Charleston airlift wing gets new commander

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The 437th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston is getting a new commander.

Change of command ceremonies are scheduled for Friday at the base in North Charleston.

Col. Darren Hartford, who currently serves as the assistant director of operations at the Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, is becoming the new wing commander.

Outgoing commander Col. Erik Hansen, who assumed command in May 2011, is transferring to become inspector general at the headquarters of the U.S. Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany.
