Ways to pay

Our “texpert” Stephen Miano joined us this morning to talk about new ways to pay when you online shop with the merging of Discover and Paypal.  Have some questions?  Here are some answers from Stephen:

Mobile payments have increased in recent years, but are we seeing the end of cash?

Certainly not. Cash is king, and I don't think ANY online innovation is going to banish cash at the register.

What exactly is this new deal with PayPal and Discover?

Discover is the odd man out with credit cards. PayPal is the new kid on the brick and mortar transaction block. Putting the two together means greater revenue for Discover as they process PayPal transactions, and it gives PayPal access to thousands of merchants that already accept Discover.

But why would PayPal not just do it on their own?

Because from a Merchant standpoint it gets very expensive to buy new equipment to process a brand new transaction type. This is why we're seeing such slow adoption of mobile payments. The average small business can't take a mobile payment because they can't invest in new hardware. This way, they don't have to, and that gives PayPal and Discover an edge over the quickly growing competition!
