COLUMBIA (WACH / AP) - Three people have been arrested after an investigation into a body that was found in Columbia last week, according to police.
Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott says Tymeka Lakager Moore, 27, Jimmy Dunbar, Jr., 32, and Yusuf Karim Aquil, 34. are charged in the homicide.
Police say the suspects are accused of killing 60-year-old Marion J. Spencer, whose body was found near Candi Lane after midnight on Sept. 18, and setting his vehicle on fire.
According to Scott, Lakager is charged with murder, third degree arson, kidnapping, armed robbery and criminal conspiracy. Dunbar is charged with murder., third degree arson, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, Aquil is charged with murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.
Authorities say fire crews discovered Spencer's body while responding to a reported brush fire.
Around 2 a.m. on the same day the body was found, fire crews responded to a vehicle fire on East Exchange Blvd., according to police. The burned vehicle is registered to Spencer.
Investigators are still trying to determine why Spencer was killed.
All three suspects remain in the Richland County jail. It wasn't clear if any of them had lawyers.
The investigation is ongoing.
