COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) -- A manufacturing facility that started in Columbia is now the world's only commercial source for UV LEDs, and as it expands, it's adding jobs here.
Sensor Electronic Technology cut the ribbon on a new facility Friday in honor of that expansion.
The LEDs it manufactures are used as indicator lamps in electronic products like TVs and traffic signals.
The new facility is about 13,000 square feet, and it's still looking to expand.
"Over the next few years, we're looking to increase this facility to accommodate 100 million devices and employ about 150 new jobs over here," said Tim Bettles, director of marketing and sales at Sensor Electronic Technology.
Senator Lindsey Graham sent a letter that was read at the ceremony, stating, "From cleaning toothbrushes to fighting terrorism, I'm proud SETi is located in South Carolina."
