COLUMBIA (WACH / AP) - A collision between a pickup truck and a school bus injured several students Thursday afternoon.

Officials say the crash occurred on the state Highway 215 bridge over Interstate 20 around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Trooper Brent Kelly says a 2002 Cadillac Escalade truck collided with the school bus.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

According to Kelly, 15 students on the bus from Eau Claire High School were injured and taken to a local hospital. There were 19 students on the Richland District 1 school bus.

Authorities have not released the extent of the students' injuries.

A family member of one of the students on the bus tells WACH Fox the bus driver said she did everything she could to not let the bus turn over after the truck hit the school bus.

The Columbia-Richland Fire Department along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and other emergency personel are responding to the scene.

Troopers have shut down the bridge as they investigate the crash.
