RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) -- As the back and forth continues over a proposed penny sales tax in Richland County, leaders are talking about how the program would work if approved by voters.

Officials invited the public to a meeting Monday night, where they discussed accountability, oversight and program management.

Voters will decide on November 6 if they want to approve the plan. The money from the tax is expected to generate $1 billion during 22 years, and pay for transportation improvements, the struggling CMRTA bus system and beautification projects.

County leaders are holding several public education meetings about the proposal before the November election. The next one is scheduled for Wednesday at the Richland County Public Library on Assembly Street. It will begin at 6 p.m.
