Columbia, SC (WACH)--One midlands church gave thanks to the women in the community on Sunday.

The First Calvary Baptist Church on Pine Street celebrated their annual Women's Day. The tribute has been held every year for more than 60 years.

This year's guest speaker was Allen University President Dr. Pamela Wilson; who spoke with the congregation about the importance of women giving back to the community.

There was also a worship service and a reception.

Church First Lady Arbra Lewis said it is important to recognize their accomplishments.

"If we go back to scripture from the beginning when god first created the world, women were a part of that. Even in the early church, women paid a vary important role in the establishment of the early church. That is a tradition we continue to celebrate."

Church members also got to meet speakers and other prominent guests afterward.
